Rare Theodore Roosevelt item from Temple, Texas. TR was on a rail tour of the state in 1905 when residents of the town of Temple forced the train to stop so they could see the president. He shook hands with his admirers while standing on the back of the train. This 1 5/8 inch item shows a Texan with a Teddy Bear on the railroad tracks. It's the first we've ever seen. The letters "BPOE" or "BPCE" and Lodge No. 138 are embossed on the front. (There is a Benevolent Order of the Elks Lodge #138 in Temple, Texas.)
