Lurleen Wallace was inaugurated governor of Alabama on Jan. 16, 1967. Lurleen was George Wallace’s wife and ran for governor because the Alabama constitution at the time limited governors to one term, which ruled George out. This 3 5/8 by 6 1/2 inch first-day cover with Montgomery, Alabama, postmark celebrated the event. Excellent.
