A unique item from a central player in the JFK assassination. This 3 1/2 inch badge was issued to George Doughty for a 1949 police chiefs conference in Dallas. After a stint working in Army counterintelligence in Berlin, Doughty returned to Dallas and in 1961 was a captain in the police department's Criminal Identification Division. He was on the scene at the murder scene of Officer J.D. Tippet and handled the infamous Oswald wallet, which then went missing. As head of the crime lab, Doughty also was involved in processing evidence at police headquarters and questioning Oswald. All this puts Doughty at the center of the events that later led to questions about Oswald's role in Tippet's death and the handling of the assassination evidence. Doughty had been recalled to active duty service in the Army in 1961 to work in counterintelligence, and then after JFK's assassination relocated to South Viet Nam where he served as a CIA special adviser. This one-of-a-kind badge is accompanied by pages of research and copies of evidence sheets signed by Doughty that explain his role in the assassination investigation. Excellent condition.
