A scarce campaign card from Lyndon Johnson’s U.S. Senate campaign in 1941. LBJ lost the Democratic primary to W. Lee “Pappy” O’Daniel, the state governor and a radio personality who campaigned with his singing group “The Hillbilly Boys,” in a close and controversial election. Most political observers believe Pappy stole the election by having election officials hold back vote counts from some districts until he knew how many were needed to win, then presto! He magically came up with the right number. This 3 3/4 inch card is in excellent condition, has LBJ campaign info on the back.
