Toymakers thought the “Teddy Bear” craze would die when Theodore Roosevelt left office. After William Howard Taft was treated to a Possum and Tater dinner in Atlanta (Taft never met a meal he didn’t like), toymakers decided the next craze in the toy world would be “Possum Billy.” The bad news was children didn’t warm up to the idea of stuffed opossums. The good news was pinmakers did, and they created this classic 7/8 inch “Billy Possum” celluloid. It’s a rare pin with engaging artwork and Whitehead and Hoag back paper in excellent condition. From Bob Atwater's collection and we haven't had one in the last fourteen years. No bids the day before the auction, Bob has lowered minimum on a great pin that has sold more before.
