James Farmer was one of the giants of the civil rights movement. He co-founded CORE in the 1940s and organized the first freedom rides in the early 1960s. In 1968, he ran for Congress in New York, losing to Shirley Chisholm. For those who recall the Denzel Washington film, "The Great Debaters," James Farmer was a young man at Wiley College in Texas in this film that was based on actual events. This 1 1/2-inch celluloid is from that 1968 campaign and is in excellent condition.
