A truly classic George Washington inaugural piece from the Al Anderson collection. This 1 5/8 inch brass medal with loop back is listed as GW 1789-7 in DeWitt. This is one of the earliest presidential political medals, made for Washington’s 1789 inauguration in New York City. It features the letters “GW” at center with the words “Long Live the President” around the top. This example has three indents below the GW and some slight surface wear.
