The 1898 election for governor of New York was a turning point in American history. Theodore Roosevelt won that election, but not by much: he won just a little over 49 percent of the vote while his main opponent, Augustus Van Wyck, won 47.77 percent. The win put TR in line for the vice presidential nomination two years later, and we all know what happened after that. This 1 3/4 inch celluloid is a New York governor campaign pin that pictures Roosevelt in his Rough Rider uniform. Whitehead and Hoag back paper, excellent condition.
