This pin is a scarce and early Black Panther item. Huey Newton and Bobby Seale founded the Black Panthers on Oct. 15, 1966. Two weeks later, this Black Panther pin was made for the Students for a Democratic Society Black Power Day at Cal Berkeley. Stokely Carmichael was the featured speaker at the event, which reportedly attracted 10,000 students. This 1 1/2 inch celluloid comes from the dawn of the Black Panther movement and is in excellent condition. We do not recall having the pin before and arguably it is the first Black Panther pin and it has the SDS connection.
