Jeannette Rankin is one of the great political stories of the 20th century. In 1916, she became the first woman elected to Congress when the voters of Montana sent her to Washington. An avowed pacifist, she voted against entering World War I and so served just one term. In 1940, she ran and was elected again -- just in time to be the only member of Congress to vote against World War II, which once again killed any chance for re-election. Anti Vietnam War activists named their "Jeannette Rankin Brigade" after her. This 1 inch celluloid with St. Louis Button Co. back paper is from 1940 and is in excellent condition.
