Jennette Rankin of Montana was the first woman elected to Congress. It happened in 1916 and a year later Rankin, a pacifist, voted against entering World War I. She lost her seat but then returned to Congress in the 1940 election -- just in time to vote against entering World War II, thus becoming the first woman in Congress and the only member of Congress to vote against both wars. This 7/8 inch celluloid with St. Louis Button Co. back paper is from the 1940 race. Excellent condition.
