George McGovern was approached in early 1968 by an anti war group with the idea of running for president. McGovern turned the group down, but after Robert Kennedy’s assassination he started to think differently. After making sure Ted Kennedy didn’t want to run, McGovern jumped into the race, saying he was committed to “the goals for which Robert Kennedy gave his life.” This scarce 1 3/4 inch celluloid from the Eavenson collection is one of the few McGovern 1968 pins. It has a few faint background marks.
