John F. Kennedy and Charles Witkowski aren’t names you usually see together, but here they are on a very rare coattail pin from 1961. Witkowski was running for mayor of Jersey City, New Jersey, when this 1 3/4 inch celluloid was made. It has faint spot by the “s” in Witkowski. By the way. Witkowski lost his race to Thomas Gangemi. Born in Italy, Gangemi later had to resign when it was discovered he never bothered to become a U.S. citizen. The only other time we’ve auctioned this pin, it went for more than $1,600.
