Legendary Chicago progressive John Peter Altgeld is pictured on this rare 7/8 inch celluloid with Geraghty back paper. Altgeld was governor of Illinois from 1893-1897 and was famous for his work in workplace and child labor safety laws as well as for pardoning participants in the Haymarket riot. Black border and ribbons suggests this could be a memorial item made soon after Altgeld died in 1902. Excellent condition.
