Boxer Jack Johnson was one of the most dominating and controversial heavyweight champs of all time. Johnson was the first African-American heavyweight champ (1908-1915) and was the object of widespread discrimination. The term “Great White Hope” was coined to describe the search to find a white boxer who could beat Johnson. Eventually convicted under the Mann Act, Johnson went to prison for a year ... and was pardoned in May of 2018 by President Donald Trump. This scarce 1 1/4 inch celluloid is in excellent condition.
