President Warren Harding was in Oregon getting ready to embark for Alaska on July 4, 1923. He participated in a celebration in Meacham, Oregon, on the fourth in commemoration of the first settlers reaching the area 80 years before. This 5 1/4 inch ribbon was worn by a member of the reception committee on July 4. The stop was part of his Pacific Coast tour that ended on Aug. 2 when Harding suffered a heart attack and died in San Francisco. Excellent condition.
