Jack Johnson was the first African-American heavyweight boxing champion. He held the title from 1908-1915 and his reign had impact far beyond the ring. The flamboyant Johnson was a lightning rod for controversy and faced charges of violating the Mann Act. This 1 1/4 inch celluloid pictures either Jack Johnson or Hall Of Fame boxer, Peter Jackson. The pin has an edge clip at 3 o’clock. We thank collector and boxing historian, Ernie Wentrcek for the alternate identification.
