Here’s a really different kind of item from the 1928 Democratic National Convention in Houston. Delegates at the convention nominated Al Smith for president. Along the way, they were treated to seeing items like this one, a combination convention pin and donkey. The 1 1/4 inch celluloid has some spots and a Henry Schwartz back paper. The attached donkey is a really unusual 3 3/4 inch hollow statue made of a plastic-like material. There is a cut along one of the donkey’s back legs where it joins the body.
