Al Smith grew up on the streets of New York and his symbol was the brown derby. This very rare Smith for president pin pictures him in his trademark hat. Smith signalled the impending switch in American politics from rural to city and his hat was a part of that image. The pin is a 1 1/4 inch celluloid and actually wearing his trademark brown derby. It is a very, very tough Smith item in excellent condition. The Pin has brought over $2,000 several times. The word classic is used quite often, but truly this is a very desirable as well as being a true classic Al Smith pin.
