This is the first time we’ve ever offered this rare Theodore Roosevelt ribbon. It shows a Catholic monk welcoming TR in Rough Rider uniform with the words, “Governor, We Give You a Strenuous Welcome.” TR was an advocate of the strenuous life and also was a staunch defender of religious freedom, speaking out against anti-Catholic prejudice. The image of a monk welcoming Roosevelt is remarkable. The 10-inch heavy cloth ribbon resembles material from a monk’s robe. Little bit of fraying at top near the pin. Minimum bid was reduced.
