This is the first time we’ve ever offered this rare Al Smith campaign item from 1928. “You Know Me Al” was the name of a baseball novel by Ring Lardner and later a wildly popular comic strip. The phrase became widely used, so much so that you see it here on a presidential campaign celluloid. It’s a 3 1/2 inch celluloid without a pin on the back. The metal back has four holes, so it apparently was made to be attached to a something as opposed to being a pinback. Only one we’ve ever seen or know of existing, excellent. This pin from a long-time Wisconsin collector is simply one of the very best Al Smith pins.
