Peoria Mayor Woodruff for governor of Illinois, 7/8 inch celluloid, Whitehead and Hoag back paper, excellent condition. Nelson Edward Woodruff served as Peoria mayor for 24 years and is certainly a colorful politician. From a cowboy in Mexico he went on to win eleven terms as Peoria's mayor and be known as a mayor friendly to all sorts of commerce. It was alleged that Woodruff looked the other way to gambling, prostitution, and other underworld activities. Unfortunately it was during World War II that these activities and the Woodruff government's looking the other way caused Mayor Woodruff to have his career end. What year the pin is for, we have no idea but it looks like late 1920's or early 1930's. From the great Bob Rouse Illinois governor collection.
