We have heard different stories on this pin for years, including that it was a Herbert Hoover related pin (Hoover was on the rowing team at Stanford). We'd like to thank Adam Gottlieb for sending information about what we now believe is the real story. Walter Hoover of Duluth, MN, was a world champion rower in the early 20th century and went on to be a long-time coach and advocate for the sport. This 1 1/2 inch celluloid sure looks like Walter.
