Walter “Big Train” Johnson was one of the greatest pitchers in Major League Baseball history. After retiring from baseball, he entered politics and in 1940 ran for Congress in Maryland. This is a very rare Johnson for Congress campaign pin. Alas, Walter was a better pitcher than campaigner. Future Speaker of the House Joe Martin said he gave Johnson two speeches: one for farmers and one for businessmen. “Alas,” he said, “Johnson got the two confused. He addressed farmers on industrial problems and the businessmen on farm problems.” It’s a 7/8 inch celluloid with Fred Pelzman of Washington, D.C. back paper in excellent condition. First time we’ve offered it or know of anyone else having this pin.
