Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and A. Philip Randolph teamed up to organize the famous 1963 march on Washington. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech and the sight of 250,000 people at the Lincoln Memorial are the enduring moments from the march, but much of its success also was due to long-time civil rights advocate Randolph, who had organized other marches and also spoke at this one. This was the largest protest march in Washington breaking the previous record of 200,000 Klan followers in the 1920's. The rare 3 1/2 inch celluloid pictured here is from that march. Excellent.
