And they’re off! Can an elephant outrun a donkey? According to this scarce celluloid campaign pin from 1908, it’s no contest. It’s a 2 1/8 inch celluloid that shows a racetrack with voters in the stands and William Howard Taft winning his race against William Jennings Bryan. Taft carries a stick that says “TR-ism” to inspire his mount. Bryan is shown coming in a distant second. Pin has a few faint edge spots, Whitehead and hag back paper, reads E.E. Harl, St. Joseph, Mo., on curl.
