A rare anti William Howard Taft pin from 1908. Taft was giving a speech at the Cooper Union in New York in 1908 when he was asked, “What is a man to do when out of work in a financial crisis and is starving?” Taft answered, “God knows,” which drew the ire of labor union members. This 1 1/4 inch celluloid was made by the magazine The Appeal to Reason, a socialist paper printed in Girard, Kansas. It criticized Taft while hoping to attract support for Socialist Party candidate Eugene Debs. Appeal to Reason back paper, excellent condition.
