A scarce celluloid stud with fascinating story. Sol Edwards and six fellow metalworkers were on strike when they confronted an African-American worker and his wife in East Liverpool, Ohio, in March of 1910. A fight ensued, and Edwards was shot and killed. This 7/8 inch celluloid stud was made for an Amalgamated Association of Iron, Tin and Steelworkers to fund a memorial for Edwards. A great example of the union vs. non-union and black vs. white conflicts of the early 20th century. Small surface bump. Bob Rouse collection.
