“Tail Gunner Joe” McCarthy, famous anti-communist crusader, and Gov. Walter Goodland are pictured on this Wisconsin campaign poster from 1946. We all know McCarthy’s story; Goodland became governor in 1943 when Governor-Elect Orland Lewis died, then served as governor until 1947 when he died in office. At the time, he was 84, oldest serving governor in U.S. history. This 13 by 21 inch poster printed by Republican Party of Wisconsin is excellent.
