Illinois politician Richard Oglesby was the man who urged that Abraham Lincoln be known as the “railsplitter” to connect with working people. The idea was a huge success in the 1860 election. This 1 5/8 inch white metal token in extra fine condition pictures Lincoln on the front and a fence on the back with the words “The Great Rail-Splitter of the West.”
