A one-of-a-kind item made in 1943 for featuring Franklin Roosevelt and King George VI. This 2 inch silver pillbox has a gold shell applied to the front of Franklin Roosevelt in the design created by John Shinnock for the U.S. Mint presidential medal. Top also has a facsimile of FDR's signature. The base is made from an 1878-S U.S. trade dollar which has been converted to a pillbox. It was made for Maury Maverick of Texas and has the Maverick family genealogy engraved on the back of the reverse. Maverick was a congressman from San Antonio who was a New Deal supporter. In the early 1940s he became the mayor of San Antonio. Inside of the lid is made from a King George VI silver coin. An amazing, unique item that combines an American president, English king, Texas public official and old silver dollar into one item. Some light scratches.
