Joe Louis was the heavyweight champion of the world for more than a decade, but he was more than that. He was the first widely supported African-American sports hero who also is credited with helping to integrate professional golf. He also spoke on on politics, as this 1940 pin for Wendell Willkie shows. It’s a 1 1/2 inch celluloid with edge crimp at 5. This pin has sold for over $400 at least twice in our auction.
