John Peter Altgeld was one of the most famous names in the progressive movement of the late 19th century. Altgeld was governor of Illinois from 1893-1897 and is remembered for pardoning three prisoners from the Haymarket riot and refusing to call in federal troops to break the Pullman strike. This 5 3/4 inch ribbon is a scarce Altgeld item from the Rouse collection, excellent condition.
