Joe McCarthy and Walter Goodland are pictured on this 1946 campaign poster from Wisconsin. “Tail Gunner Joe” was elected to the U.S. Senate for the first time that year, defeating Robert LaFollette Jr. in the primary and then beating Howard McMurray in the general election. Ironically, LaFollette was well-known for his anti-communist beliefs. It was the start of a famous and controversial Senate career for McCarthy. This 13 1/2 by 2 inch poster has a little bit of light wear in a few spots on edge, overall is excellent.
