Twelve Communist Party members were charged with a conspiracy to overthrow the government in 1949. Among the 12 were William Zebulon Foster and Gus Hall. The trial became known as the Smith Act Trial of 1949 and became a center of attention and controversy. This 1 1/4 inch celluloid pin was created for a May Day march in support of the defendants. This scarce item from the Al Anderson collection is in excellent condition.
