This scarce Jimmy pin is from a vital race that opened the door to his presidential nomination. It’s a 3 inch celluloid featuring the “Why Not Our Best” slogan inspired by Carter’s U.S. Navy hero – Admiral Hyman Rickover. The pin was made for the 1976 Florida primary, held on March 9. It was a key test to see if Carter could defeat George Wallace in the South. He did, which led to Wallace eventually leaving the race and started a string of primary victories for Carter. This pin from the Eavenson collection is in excellent condition. Brought to and worn by the Carter Peanut Brigade volunteers from Georgia who worked the Florida "panhandle area.” of northern Florida.
