John Peter Altgeld was a fierce defender of the common man and this celluloid stud was meant to depict that. Altgeld was governor of Illinois from 1893-1897 during which time he pardoned three men convicted in the Haymarket riot and refused to use force to stop the Pullman strike. This rare “fearless and true” 7/8 inch stud is excellent.
