An exceptionally rare Al Smith for president pin. This is the only pin like this one we have ever seen or heard about. It is actually a 1924 hopeful pin from the Democratic Convention that essentially deadlocked between Smith and McAdoo and two weeks later chose John W. Davis. The pin was in Kevin Lipson's great Al Smith collection and is unique as far as we know. The pin reads “Bye Bye” to Cal (Calvin Coolidge) and “Howdy” to Al (Al Smith). Curl of pin reads “Anderson ... Omaha.” It’s a 1 inch celluloid with a tiny cut on right side. Great collections are all about grabbing the chance to acquire ultra rare items and this one certainly fits that description. A rare opportunity. In the Lipson sale this pin sold for almost $4,000
